 Founded in 2015, RDU Mobile Food Association has focused and completed the in these areas:

ADVOCACY

As a voice for the local food truck industry, we work with local municipalities on best business practices and regulation. 

City of Raleigh: We successfully provided input on the recent Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) update for the City of Raleigh making sure food trucks continue to operate in zoned areas.  We also introduced a proposal to allow food trucks to operate street-side in Downtown Raleigh.  On this same topic, we provided industry feedback for the City of Raleigh’s Downtown Raleigh pilot program.  This is a test period to explore food truck viability in the Downtown area.

Fuquay-Varina: We successfully provided input on recent changes on their mobile food ordinance.  After passing an ordinance that allowed food trucks to operate in the town, the town reviewed an ordinance revision that would eliminate the town’s mobile food industry.  After working with local businesses, a compromise was made that helped continue mobile food to continue.

Future: Our advocacy goals are to help open untapped and viable opportunities where food trucks are needed and wanted.  There are both regulatory and marketing opportunities where the mobile food business can be more successful.

 COMMUNITY

RDUMFA organizes community service events that give back to charitable nonprofit organizations.  RDUMFA has worked with Meals on Wheels of Wake County in our annual Rudolph’s Holiday Rodeo, Durham Rescue Mission by serving the Mission’s residents, and Salvation Army and one of their programs Project CATCH.

One of our core values is Community.  As small business that is local and/or independent, we are not only a mobile food vendor, but also your neighbor.  Our organization believes in giving back as the community has supported us, too.

EDUCATION

As the saying goes, “a rising tide lifts all boats.”  RDUMFA believes in this saying with its core value of Quality.  We believe in striving in quality relationships with our clients and customers.  We also believe in striving for quality in our product.  We also believe in striving for a quality-run business.

RDUMFA helps by offering Education opportunities for their members.  We have reached out to business partners to present on tax issues that small food and beverage businesses face.  We have partnered with local food organizations that share similar goals and objectives, like Triangle Food Makers and Coaching for Cooks.  We also partner with statewide events such as the NC Restaurant & Lodging Expo.

We believe RDUMFA membership displays a member’s desire to continuous improve and strive for a high-quality business.

COMMUNICATION & NETWORKING

Last, but not least is one of the most valuable assets of our organization.  The value of your membership will more than likely come from here.

Daily: Our comprehensive website offers a Members Only area with a wealth of resources to interact with other members.  Members use our website to share experience with other businesses and suppliers in the area, scheduling conflicts, and feedback on past and future events.

Monthly/Quarterly:  Our organization also produces newsletters to highlight big events and issues in our industry.  In addition, we organize social events geared to interacting with other members.
